Online education may appear to be a promising alternative for students with physical and sensory disabilities because they get to work at their own pace and in their own home. However, not all online programs are equal when it comes to their resources for students with disabilities. Students with disabilities who wish to enroll in online education must either be able to advocate for themselves and their own rights or have a person who is willing to advocate for them. The American with Disabilities Act states that online programs must provide appropriate accommodations for students with disabilities, but has not specifically defined what that means. “Once students with disabilities are accepted into an online program, they should prepare to be direct and open about what they need to succeed, experts say” (Haynie).[138]

The only reason to limit someone to a section is if you are purposely trying to make sure that person only sees certain students in the course and not others, for example, if you want a TA to only be able to grade specific students.  In that case, you’d have to manually create a section, put the students and the TA in it and limit the TA to the section.  Students would be in their registrar section AND in the section you created.  You would also need to enroll the TA to the INIT section and limit to that section as well, or you won’t be able to communicate with that TA!

Educational psychologists distinguish between several types of constructivism: individual (or psychological) constructivism, such as Piaget’s theory of cognitive development, and social constructivism. This form of constructivism has a primary focus on how learners construct their own meaning from new information, as they interact with reality and with other learners who bring different perspectives. Constructivist learning environments require students to use their prior knowledge and experiences to formulate new, related, and/or adaptive concepts in learning (Termos, 2012[50]). Under this framework the role of the teacher becomes that of a facilitator, providing guidance so that learners can construct their own knowledge. Constructivist educators must make sure that the prior learning experiences are appropriate and related to the concepts being taught. Jonassen (1997) suggests “well-structured” learning environments are useful for novice learners and that “ill-structured” environments are only useful for more advanced learners. Educators utilizing a constructivist perspective may emphasize an active learning environment that may incorporate learner centered problem-based learning, project-based learning, and inquiry-based learning, ideally involving real-world scenarios, in which students are actively engaged in critical thinking activities. An illustrative discussion and example can be found in the 1980s deployment of constructivist cognitive learning in computer literacy, which involved programming as an instrument of learning.[51]:224 LOGO, a programming language, embodied an attempt to integrate Piagetan ideas with computers and technology.[51][52] Initially there were broad, hopeful claims, including “perhaps the most controversial claim” that it would “improve general problem-solving skills” across disciplines.[51]:238 However, LOGO programming skills did not consistently yield cognitive benefits.[51]:238 It was “not as concrete” as advocates claimed, it privileged “one form of reasoning over all others,” and it was difficult to apply the thinking activity to non-LOGO-based activities.[53] By the late 1980s, LOGO and other similar programming languages had lost their novelty and dominance and were gradually de-emphasized amid criticisms.[54]

Abstract: The capability of organizations to accumulate and apply new knowledge is a key factor in order to achieve the new competitive standards. A continuous changing diversity, to which the need of adaptation to the changes of external environment is added, speeds up the rate of development and business education. The new information and communication technologies speed up the rate of change and increase the need of education that is subject to a higher information flow. The achievements of information technology, along with changes within society, determine the creation of new paradigms for business education and training. Under these circumstances, e-learning has become one of the main educational forms of human resources in business. This research aims to measure the impact of some initiatives within human resources on an organization, market leader within pharmaceutical field, namely measuring the efficiency of business education programs concerning human resources through e-learning. Under these circumstances, the carried-out research aims to put into practice the theoretical frame of ROI (Return on Investment) methodology of evaluating the business education programs concerning human resources in five stages, suggested by J. J. Phillips. The research validates theoretical data of the surveyed model and it is based on the analysis of the data gathering process within the Methodology. This work shows only aspects related to the measuring of the participants` reaction towards the e-learning business education program, respectively.

Completing a Student Assessment of Instruction (SAI) — The Student Assessment of Instruction (SAI) allows students the opportunity to provide confidential feedback about their courses and instructors.

Despite the limitations, students with special needs, including ADHD, have expressed an overall enthusiasm for e-learning and have identified a number e-learning benefits, including: availability of online course notes, materials and additional resources; the ability to work at an independent pace and spend extra time formulating thoughtful responses in class discussions; help in understanding course lecture/content; ability to review lectures multiple times; and enhanced access to and communication with the course instructor.[129][134]

The workaround is to view quiz data by sections (i.e. filter section) so that the data points being displayed fall under the 10,000 point threshold. Additionally, if you have one large section in your course, you may want to create sections in myUFL and add students to them to view quiz statistics.

It’s better to minify JavaScript in order to improve website performance. The diagram shows the current total size of all JavaScript files against the prospective JavaScript size after its minification and compression. It is highly recommended that all JavaScript files should be compressed and minified as it can save up to 7.0 kB or 79% of the original size.

At PSC, students enrolled in math, writing emphasis, beginning physics, or beginning chemistry courses may connect with a tutor in a fully interactive, online environment. Virtual tutors have access to textbooks used in PSC classes, enabling students to ask questions related to homework assignments and other class requirements. If homework is not from a textbook, the student may speak, email, or chat their question to the virtual tutor. After receiving a question, the tutor will work through the problem, prompting the student to answer questions and interact throughout the process. The display of quiz statistics currently has a limit of 10,000 data points. After the 10,000 mark, the quiz statistics display will not load. For example, if you have a course with 300 students and they are taking an exam with 50 questions, that is 15,000 data points. You will not be able to view the quiz statistics in the browser, though you can still download the excel spreadsheet. We have also found that if you are close to that 10,000 point threshold (e.g. over 9,000), quiz statistics may intermittently not load.

Even though proper use has shown to increase student performances, being distracted would be detrimental. Another disadvantage is increased potential for cheating. When adopting new technologies, there may be one best chance to “get it right.” Seymour Papert (p. 32) points out a good example of a (bad) choice that has become strongly fixed in social habit and material equipment: our “choice” to use the QWERTY keyboard.[176] The QWERTY arrangement of letters on the keyboard was originally chosen, not because it was the most efficient for typing, but because early typewriters were prone to jam when adjacent keys were struck in quick succession. Now that typing has become a digital process, this is no longer an issue, but the QWERTY arrangement lives on as a social habit, one that is very difficult to change.

If you have an online quiz in which you want to add a bonus question, and the bonus question is one that will be graded by canvas (i.e. multiple choice, fill in the blank, True/False, etc.), create the question and set it to the number of bonus points you want the student to have if they answer it correctly.  Once all students have taken the quiz, edit the quiz and make that bonus question worth 0 points.  The point value awarded to the student will not change, only the total point value of the quiz itself will change (decreased by the number of bonus points you set the question for).

It encompasses several potential applications, which may be teacher or student oriented, including educational assessment throughout the continuum of learning, such as computerized classification testing, computerized adaptive testing, student testing, and grading an exam. E-Marking is an examiner led activity closely related to other e-assessment activities such as e-testing, or e-learning which are student led. E-marking allows markers to mark a scanned script or online response on a computer screen rather than on paper.

It would probably also result in extensive legal actions (since UTD is run by the state there would be 4th amendment concerns), which I’ve never heard of.
