This theoretical framework was developed in the early 20th century based on animal learning experiments by Ivan Pavlov, Edward Thorndike, Edward C. Tolman, Clark L. Hull, and B.F. Skinner. Many psychologists used these results to develop theories of human learning, but modern educators generally see behaviorism as one aspect of a holistic synthesis. Teaching in behaviorism has been linked to training, emphasizing the animal learning experiments. Since behaviorism consists of the view of teaching people how to do something with rewards and punishments, it is related to training people.

Neil Postman endorsed the notion that technology impacts human cultures, including the culture of classrooms, and that this is a consideration even more important than considering the efficiency of a new technology as a tool for teaching. Regarding the computer’s impact on education, Postman writes (p. 19):

If you have an online quiz in which you want to add a bonus question, and the bonus question is one that will be graded by canvas (i.e. multiple choice, fill in the blank, True/False, etc.), create the question and set it to the number of bonus points you want the student to have if they answer it correctly. Once all students have taken the quiz, edit the quiz and make that bonus question worth 0 points. The point value awarded to the student will not change, only the total point value of the quiz itself will change (decreased by the number of bonus points you set the question for).
The eLearning tech code must be set to enroll students into the course shell. The first course shells will be created eight weeks before the start of the semester for those who set their tech codes before this time. Thereafter, course shells will be created 24 hours after the tech code is set.

The design of e-learning platforms in ways that enable universal access has received attention from several directions, including the World Wide Web Consortium’s Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI). WAI provides universal formatting standards for websites so they can remain accessible to people with disabilities. For example, developing or adopting e-learning material can enable accessibility for people with visual impairment. The Perkins School for the Blind offers learning resources tailored for the visually impaired, including webcasts, webinars, downloadable science activities, and an online library that has access to over 40,000 resource materials on blindness and deaf blindness.

Collaborative apps allow students and teachers to interact while studying. Apps are designed after games, which provide a fun way to revise. When the experience is enjoyable the students become more engaged. Games also usually come with a sense of progression, which can help keep students motivated and consistent while trying to improve. A virtual learning environment (VLE), also known as a learning platform, simulates a virtual classroom or meetings by simultaneously mixing several communication technologies. Web conferencing software enables students and instructors to communicate with each other via webcam, microphone, and real-time chatting in a group setting. Participants can raise hands, answer polls or take tests. Students are able to whiteboard and screencast when given rights by the instructor, who sets permission levels for text microphone rights and mouse control.
