eLearning was updated recenly, and with this update there are a few new features, one returning feature, and a few minor issues we’d like to tell you about. The video link below will go over the following:

Atkinson experimented with using computers to teach arithmetic and spelling via Teletypes to elementary school students in the Palo Alto Unified School District in California.[27][28] Stanford’s Education Program for Gifted Youth is descended from those early experiments.

If you have an online quiz in which you want to add a bonus question, and the bonus question is one that will be graded by canvas (i.e. multiple choice, fill in the blank, True/False, etc.), create the question and set it to the number of bonus points you want the student to have if they answer it correctly.  Once all students have taken the quiz, edit the quiz and make that question worth 0 points.  The point value awarded to the student will not change, only the total point value of the quiz itself will change (decreased by the number of bonus points you set the question for).

Activating the Course Reserves link in Canvas automatically creates a course in Ares.  If you have a previous course and have listings in Ares that you need to transfer to a new course shell, or if you experience any other problems, contact the Course Reserves Unit at 352-273-2520, or via email at eres@uflib.ufl.edu.

In addition, when correcting quiz questions or answers for regrade, you need to allow at least 10 minutes before making any additional changes to other quiz questions or answers.  Otherwise, the regrading process is interrupted and you will need to manually regrade the quiz question/answers instead.

Electronic devices such as cellphones and computers facilitate rapid access to a stream of sources, each of which may receive cursory attention. Michel Rich, an associate professor at Harvard Medical School and executive director of the center on Media and Child Health in Boston, said of the digital generation, “Their brains are rewarded not for staying on task, but for jumping to the next thing. The worry is we’re raising a generation of kids in front of screens whose brains are going to be wired differently.”[169] Students have always faced distractions; computers and cellphones are a particular challenge because the stream of data can interfere with focusing and learning. Although these technologies affect adults too, young people may be more influenced by it as their developing brains can easily become habituated to switching tasks and become unaccustomed to sustaining attention.[169] Too much information, coming too rapidly, can overwhelm thinking.[170]

The course announcements are done through emails. The UF e-learning provides instructions on how to copy on emails and announcements. The students can messaged from their gradebook. Students may feel uncomfortable receiving an email with that subject line. The messages are sent to the students individually.

Virtual classroom learning and microlearning have become commonplace in corporate training. Both options adapt beautifully to the modern classroom , which strives for adaptability, flexibility, and accessibility. At face-value, though, the connection between this EdTech option and this design model seems ambiguous at best. As training professionals, we do our best to keep up with current trends in the field.

UF Flexible Learning provides anyone access to UF courses in an online, flexible format. Flex courses are open-enrollment and students work at their own pace. If you are not a UF student, no problem! Formal admission to UF is not required.

Social media is among the most prominent of these resources , and there’s a strong temptation for many online educators to find creative ways to use it in their course. The eLearning tech code must be set to enroll students into the course shell. The first course shells will be created eight weeks before the start of the semester for those who set their tech codes before this time. Thereafter, course shells will be created 24 hours after the tech code is set.

Richey defined educational technology as “the study and ethical practice of facilitating learning and improving performance by creating, using and managing appropriate technological processes and resources”.[4] The Association for Educational Communications and Technology (AECT) denoted instructional technology as “the theory and practice of design, development, utilization, management, and evaluation of processes and resources for learning”.[5][6][7] As such, educational technology refers to all valid and reliable applied education sciences, such as equipment, as well as processes and procedures that are derived from scientific research, and in a given context may refer to theoretical, algorithmic or heuristic processes: it does not necessarily imply physical technology. Educational technology is the process of integrating technology into education in a positive manner that promotes a more diverse learning environment and a way for students to learn how to use technology as well as their common assignments

This weekend, Blackboard will perform scheduled datacenter infrastructure maintenance to replace hardware which will reach end-of-life in March 2018. This maintenance will take place between 11pm January 19 (Friday night) and 3am January 20 (early Saturday morning). Blackboard anticipates no interruption in service as a result of this work; however, they cannot entirely rule out brief periods of intermittent connectivity. We analyzed Elearning.uwf.edu page load time and found that the first response time was 282 ms and then it took 1.1 sec to load all DOM resources and completely render a web page. This is quite a good result, as only 20% of websites can load faster.

There are no restrictions to the types of tests that can use e-marking, with e-marking applications designed to accommodate multiple choice, written, and even video submissions for performance examinations. E-marking software is used by individual educational institutions and can also be rolled out to the participating schools of awarding exam organisations. e-marking has been used to mark many well known high stakes examinations, which in the United Kingdom include A levels and GCSE exams, and in the US includes the SAT test for college admissions. Ofqual reports that e-marking is the main type of marking used for general qualifications in the United Kingdom.

Some courses may not have an eLearning component. Instructors often use eLearning as a teaching tool, but others may not need it for their particular section. For face-to-face classes, this may be the case. Please check with your instructor and syllabus to ensure the course should have an eLearning component.

There are three types of whiteboards.[91] The initial whiteboards, analogous to blackboards, date from the late 1950s. The term whiteboard is also used metaphorically to refer to virtual whiteboards in which computer software applications simulate whiteboards by allowing writing or drawing. This is a common feature of groupware for virtual meeting, collaboration, and instant messaging. Interactive whiteboards allow learners and instructors to write on the touch screen. The screen markup can be on either a blank whiteboard or any computer screen content. Depending on permission settings, this visual learning can be interactive and participatory, including writing and manipulating images on the interactive whiteboard.[91]
