Online education originated from the University of Illinois in 1960. Although internet would not be created for another nine years, students were able to access class information with linked computer terminals. The first online course was offered in 1986 by the Electronic University Network for DOS and Commodore 64 computers. The display of quiz statistics currently has a limit of 10,000 data points. After the 10,000 mark, the quiz statistics display will not load. For example, if you have a course with 300 students and they are taking an exam with 50 questions, that is 15,000 data points. You will not be able to view the quiz statistics in the browser, though you can still download the excel spreadsheet. We have also found that if you are close to that 10,000 point threshold (e.g. over 9,000), quiz statistics may intermittently not load.

A four-hour extended maintenance outage has been scheduled for Tuesday, February 27, from 2-6am (early morning) to add hardware and resources in order to improve eLearning performance. Help, CBTs pose some learning challenges. Typically, the creation of effective CBTs requires enormous resources. The software for developing CBTs (such as Flash or Adobe Director) is often more complex than a subject matter expert or teacher is able to use. UWF’s online courses are made available through eLearning, which is hosted by Desire2Learn, one of the leaders in online learning. eLearning is widely used by UWF instructors for fully online courses and to supplement traditional courses with online content.

This weekend, Blackboard will perform scheduled datacenter infrastructure maintenance to replace hardware which will reach end-of-life in March 2018. This maintenance will take place between 11pm January 19 (Friday night) and 3am January 20 (early Saturday morning).   1. eLearning (elearning.uwf.edu) is the learning management system used for online courses at UWF.  Whether your course is fully-online, blended or face-to-face, many instructors use eLearning to provide access to course resources, activities, assessments and grades. You may have used eLearning in other classes and have probably noticed that not all online courses are alike. There are some basic things that you should know to find your way around eLearning and how to get help when you need it, in order to be a successful online learner.
    National private schools are also available online. These provide the benefits of e-learning to students in states where charter online schools are not available. They also may allow students greater flexibility and exemption from state testing.
    If you uncheck the box for “Let Students See Their Quiz Responses” at the end of the semester or review period, then they will not be able to see the quiz questions or their answers.  They will only be able to see their quiz grade.  This is best practice if you prefer not to have the potential of tests being shared between semesters. Alternatively, you can choose to override the term availability settings and put the beginning date as the beginning of the semester and the end date the Friday after grades are due.  Be sure to check the “Users can only participate between these dates” box to override the term dates.
