As the year ends, we look back at three eLearning trends of 2016. eLearning Trends: Gamification. eLearning Trends: Social Learning. Another trend that was critically important in 2016 per eLearning articles and bloggers was social learning.
eLearning was updated recenly, and with this update there are a few new features, one returning feature, and a few minor issues we’d like to tell you about. The video link below will go over the following:
The University of Florida (UF) provides e-Learning for the benefit of the students and for the instructors in the core missions of teaching and learning, research, and extension by researching, adopting, and supporting campus-wide, Internet-based systems. This is the most effective learning process for the students provided by the University of Florida. The University of Florida provides few e-learning tips to the students who enrol in the course. The students often enrol themselves and chose “limit to section” during the enrollment process. It is to make sure that the students have enrolled to the particular section or course not others.
A common problem at the beginning of a term is that instructors/TAs/Facilitators us that they cannot see the students in their course. This is often because whoever enrolled them chose “limit to section” during the enrollment process. They are appropriately enrolled in the INIT section, but then limited to that section. Typically only teacher-type roles are in the INIT section so the students in the registrar sections are off-limits to the person who is limited to the INIT section.
I’ve been on a surprise strip. You book a trip for three day but without having a clear where you are going to. Very exciting! We had to be at Schiphol by 5 am and although we were still sleepy: the taxi driver was not. He talked a lot, probably to stay awake.
Good Afternoon, The UT Dallas eLearning team assists faculty in implementing Clickers (classroom polling technology) in their classrooms. If you are new to Clickers and would like to learn more, PLEASE CLICK HERE FOR AN OVERVIEW. The officially recommended clicker technology for campus-wide use is Turning Point Cloud. If you are interested to start using Turning Point Cloud in your Spring 18 class/es, PLEASE FILL OUT THIS ONLINE FORM and we will initiate the process right away.
Educational psychologists distinguish between several types of constructivism: individual (or psychological) constructivism, such as Piaget’s theory of cognitive development, and social constructivism. This form of constructivism has a primary focus on how learners construct their own meaning from new information, as they interact with reality and with other learners who bring different perspectives. Constructivist learning environments require students to use their prior knowledge and experiences to formulate new, related, and/or adaptive concepts in learning (Termos, 2012). Under this framework the role of the teacher becomes that of a facilitator, providing guidance so that learners can construct their own knowledge. Constructivist educators must make sure that the prior learning experiences are appropriate and related to the concepts being taught. Jonassen (1997) suggests “well-structured” learning environments are useful for novice learners and that “ill-structured” environments are only useful for more advanced learners. Educators utilizing a constructivist perspective may emphasize an active learning environment that may incorporate learner centered problem-based learning, project-based learning, and inquiry-based learning, ideally involving real-world scenarios, in which students are actively engaged in critical thinking activities. An illustrative discussion and example can be found in the 1980s deployment of constructivist cognitive learning in computer literacy, which involved programming as an instrument of learning.:224 LOGO, a programming language, embodied an attempt to integrate Piagetan ideas with computers and technology. Initially there were broad, hopeful claims, including “perhaps the most controversial claim” that it would “improve general problem-solving skills” across disciplines.:238 However, LOGO programming skills did not consistently yield cognitive benefits.:238 It was “not as concrete” as advocates claimed, it privileged “one form of reasoning over all others,” and it was difficult to apply the thinking activity to non-LOGO-based activities. By the late 1980s, LOGO and other similar programming languages had lost their novelty and dominance and were gradually de-emphasized amid criticisms.

Electronic devices such as cellphones and computers facilitate rapid access to a stream of sources, each of which may receive cursory attention. Michel Rich, an associate professor at Harvard Medical School and executive director of the center on Media and Child Health in Boston, said of the digital generation, “Their brains are rewarded not for staying on task, but for jumping to the next thing. The worry is we’re raising a generation of kids in front of screens whose brains are going to be wired differently.” Students have always faced distractions; computers and cellphones are a particular challenge because the stream of data can interfere with focusing and learning. Although these technologies affect adults too, young people may be more influenced by it as their developing brains can easily become habituated to switching tasks and become unaccustomed to sustaining attention. Too much information, coming too rapidly, can overwhelm thinking.
Once upon a time, we subjected you to “the worst eLearning course ever.” My personal eLearning pet peeves. I understand that organizations often want to ensure that learners see every screen of their eLearning. 2) The eLearning course and/or assessment were poorly designed.
UF Information Technology has been working on updating the website, which launched Monday, for about two years, said Doug Johnson, the associate director of academic technology. There was no cost to redo the website because UFIT’s web development team redesigned it.
When importing a CSV file into the e-Learning course gradebook, if the words ‘Current Score,’ ‘Current Points,’ ‘Final Score,’ or ‘Final Grade’ are part of the assignment name, the CSV file will not upload, and you will get an error message that no changes were made in the gradebook. To work around this limitation, please avoid using those words either by themselves or in combination with other words (i.e. Exam 1 Final Grade), or if you must use them, make them lower case (i.e. Exam 1 final grade).
Tomorrow morning (Friday, December 1st), between 1-5am CST (early morning), Blackboard will perform emergency maintenance at their datacenter that hosts UTD’s eLearning environment. Blackboard anticipates no… More interruption in service as a result of the work; however, they cannot entirely rule out brief periods of intermittent connectivity. We strongly recommend against users taking online exams during this four-hour window of time. If you have any questions, please contact email@example.com. Thank you.
Various pedagogical perspectives or learning theories may be considered in designing and interacting with educational technology. E-learning theory examines these approaches. These theoretical perspectives are grouped into three main theoretical schools or philosophical frameworks: behaviorism, cognitivism and constructivism.
One of the most common mistakes I see in pricing eLearning is exclusively applying the old one-time registration model. When we realize eLearning is not bound by the same constraints as in-person events, new opportunities multiply our revenue potential. Rethinking Event-Based Pricing.

The display of quiz statistics currently has a limit of 10,000 data points. After the 10,000 mark, the quiz statistics display will not load. For example, if you have a course with 300 students and they are taking an exam with 50 questions, that is 15,000 data points. You will not be able to view the quiz statistics in the browser, though you can still download the excel spreadsheet. We have also found that if you are close to that 10,000 point threshold (e.g. over 9,000), quiz statistics may intermittently not load.

Many US states spend large sums of money on technology. However, as of 2013, none were looking at technology return on investment (ROI) to connect expenditures on technology with improved student outcomes.

Classroom 2.0 refers to online multi-user virtual environments (MUVEs) that connect schools across geographical frontiers. Known as “eTwinning”, computer-supported collaborative learning (CSCL) allows learners in one school to communicate with learners in another that they would not get to know otherwise, enhancing educational outcomes and cultural integration.
The use of educational apps generally has positive effect on learning. Pre- and post- tests reveal that the use of apps on mobile devices reduces the achievement gap between struggling and average students. Some educational apps improve group work by allowing students to receive feedback on answers and promoting collaboration in solving problems, examples of these apps can be found in the third paragraph. The benefits of app-assisted learning have been exhibited in all age groups. Kindergarten students that use iPads show much higher rates of literacy than non-users. Medical students at University of California Irvine that utilized iPad academically have been reported to score 23% higher on national exams than previous classes that did not.
