Neil Postman endorsed the notion that technology impacts human cultures, including the culture of classrooms, and that this is a consideration even more important than considering the efficiency of a new technology as a tool for teaching.[160] Regarding the computer’s impact on education, Postman writes (p. 19):

Turnitin (anti-plagiarism) software will undergo essential maintenance on Saturday 01/07/2017 from 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM CST. During this 8 hour window, Turnitin assignments will not be available. By Phil Hanyok, COTP. Every quarter, employees gather in the cafeteria for town hall meetings. The tables are removed, and seats are placed in neat rows. The podium, microphone, and projector screen are tested and ready.      As employees enter the room and take their seats, the senior vice president who will present the latest company information talks quietly with one of his direct reports.

Educational technologists and psychologists apply basic educational and psychological research into an evidence-based applied science (or a technology) of learning or instruction. In research, these professions typically require a graduate degree (Master’s, Doctorate, Ph.D., or D.Phil.) in a field related to educational psychology, educational media, experimental psychology, cognitive psychology or, more purely, in the fields of educational, instructional or human performance technology or instructional design. In industry, educational technology is utilized to train students and employees by a wide range of learning and communication practitioners, including instructional designers, technical trainers, technical communication and professional communication specialists, technical writers, and of course primary school and college teachers of all levels. The transformation of educational technology from a cottage industry to a profession is discussed by Shurville et al.[198]

HTML content can be minified and compressed by a website’s server. The most efficient way is to compress content using GZIP which reduces data amount travelling through the network between server and browser. This page needs HTML code to be minified as it can gain 994 B, which is 14% of the original size. It is highly recommended that content of this web page should be compressed using GZIP, as it can save up to 5.2 kB or 71% of the original size.

Computer-based training (CBT) refers to self-paced learning activities delivered on a computer or handheld device such as a tablet or smartphone. CBT initially delivered content via CD-ROM, and typically presented content linearly, much like reading an online book or manual. For this reason, CBT is often used to teach static processes, such as using software or completing mathematical equations. Computer-based training is conceptually similar to web-based training (WBT) which are delivered via Internet using a web browser.

It’s very exciting to learn about and invest in the latest trends in educational technology. Who among us hasn’t been swept up by the allure of gamification , the promise of curation , and a desire to embed microlearning at every conceivable moment of learning need? No matter how enticing these new ideas might be, we are always (rightly) concerned about adoption. MORE

Every year around this time, we discuss the eLearning trends for the year. THESE ARE THE ELEARNING TRENDS FOR 2018. One thing is certain, however, microlearning will be everywhere as one of the biggest eLearning trends for 2018. Top 5 eLearning Trends Happening Now. MORE

Massively open online courses (MOOCs), although quite popular in discussions of technology and education in developed countries (more so in US), are not a major concern in most developing or low-income countries. One of the stated goals of MOOCs is to provide less fortunate populations (i.e., in developing countries) an opportunity to experience courses with US-style content and structure. However, research shows only 3% of the registrants are from low-income countries and although many courses have thousands of registered students only 5-10% of them complete the course.[167] MOOCs also implies that certain curriculum and teaching methods are superior and this could eventually wash over (or possibly washing out) local educational institutions, cultural norms and educational traditions.[168]

The evolving nature of technology may unsettle teachers, who may experience themselves as perpetual novices.[182] Finding quality materials to support classroom objectives is often difficult. Random professional development days are inadequate.[182]

The Master of Science degree is a six semester program tailored to meet the needs of busy professionals who are looking for a distance degree program that is compatible with their current work. All classes are online, offered through a state-of-the-art system that allows you to complete your coursework when your schedule allows. The cost remains the same, no matter where you are located.

Employers’ acceptance of online education has risen over time.[155] More than 50% of human resource managers SHRM surveyed for an August 2010 report said that if two candidates with the same level of experience were applying for a job, it would not have any kind of effect whether the candidate’s obtained degree was acquired through an online or a traditional school. Seventy-nine percent said they had employed a candidate with an online degree in the past 12 months. However 66% said candidates who get degrees online were not seen as positively as a job applicant with traditional degrees.[155]

UWF’s online courses are made available through eLearning, which is hosted by Desire2Learn, one of the leaders in the online learning field. eLearning is widely used by UWF instructors to hold fully online courses and to supplement traditional courses with online content.

Radio offers a synchronous educational vehicle, while streaming audio over the internet with webcasts and podcasts can be asynchronous. Classroom microphones, often wireless, can enable learners and educators to interact more clearly.

^ Fiedler, Sebastian.; Väljataga, Terje (2011). “Personal learning environments: concept or technology?”. International Journal of Virtual and Personal Learning Environments 2(4). pp. 1–11. Retrieved 2014-03-03. QUOTE: “There are clear signs that over the years a wide range of conceptualisations and interpretations have surfaced in the ongoing debates and exchanges. Attwell (2007b), for example, reported his experience at a conference in the following terms: “there was no consensus on what a Personal Learning Environment (PLE) might be. The only thing most people seemed to agree on was that it was not a software application. Instead it was more of a new approach to using technologies for learning” (p. 1). Even this minimal consensus appears to be rather questionable after a thorough literature review on the topic. Kolas and Staupe (2007) also contested that “the variety of interpretation illustrates how diffuse the PLE concept still is” (p. 750). Johnson and Liber only recently asserted that “within this label, however, a number of practices and descriptions have emerged – not all of which are compatible, and discussions have raged as to the interpretation of the terms” (p. 3). This doesn’t sound much different from what Johnson et al. (2006) had concluded already two years earlier: “This is a title that embraces a variety of different interpretations, and this essential ambiguity is reflected in the discourse that has emerged around it … That such a variety of interpretation can emerge around the same terminology is indicative of a lack of clarity defining exactly what a PLE is” (p. 182). There is very little indication that this state of affairs has substantially improved or is currently improving.”

With this in mind, the article focuses on the workflow I use when I create my eLearning courses.   My eLearning courses begin life on paper (where I’ve sketched some ideas).   When it comes to eLearning development, I use PowerPoint as my “heavy hitter.”
